COUNTRY DATA, BUILT FOR COMPARISON

Compare countries on an interactive map

Compare Countries is a visual country-statistics dashboard for people who want a quick sense of scale before they open a spreadsheet. Search for a country, click directly on the map, drag countries into groups, or start from a prepared example. The same map can compare a wide variety of metrics like geography, demographics, economic indicators, natural resources and development indicators.

FIELD MANUAL

Compare at a glance.

Compare Countries is an interactive world map for exploring country facts visually. Compare GDP, population, land area, resources, energy, emissions, agriculture and development indicators for individual countries or country groups.

  1. Choose a metric. Additive totals use a cartogram; rates and averages retain the Mercator map and use a low-to-high colour scale.
  2. Find or click a country. The first enters Group A and following countries enter Group B.
  3. Drag one country onto another. Dropping onto a Group A country sends the dragged country to Group B; dropping onto Group B sends it to Group A.
  4. Compare land area directly. In Land Area mode, Group B outlines are drawn on the single Group A base country and can be moved or rotated.
  5. Explore beyond the frame. Drag empty map space to pan, use the scroll wheel to zoom, or hold the pointer near an edge.
  6. Build groups. Search within either group, drag map countries into a group, or move country tiles between groups.

Geographic boundaries are frozen Natural Earth public-domain data. Statistical values retain their source and reference year.
